Semester 1 Exam

Altered Images...
...Seeing Is (Not) Believing

The following web site presents a large number of altered images that found their way into the commercial Press and were presented as "fact" to an unwitting Public.  In some cases the alterations were minor or "cosmetic" and had no real affect on public perception.  But in others, the visual deception was purposefully undertaken in order to achieve some (usually political) means.

Your exam is twofold...

1st, you will select 2 of the images from the Altered Images web site, read the story behind the image (click on it) and then summarize the story on your Blog (along with the picture). Your summary should include whether you believe the alteration was done for a purpose that was other than cosmetic (and) whether you think it was successful.

2nd, you will take and then alter a photograph that is designed to deceive--adding or subtracting features that change the original photo and present an untrue version of the original scenario.  While not a requirement, extra points will be awarded for conceptual interest.

(Hint: While you are considering what to take pictures of, there will be Photo 1 students all over the Lab doing interesting thing)

Post BOTH photos to you Blog and an index print.
